Archaeology Internship Program

Meet Our History Heroes in Training

These young individuals are the backbone of our archaeological efforts, meticulously excavating sites like the home and tavern of Archibald Sinclair and his family where they're unearthing a former Inn and finding incredible artifacts that depict the culture and life of those who once lived at Fort Frederica in the 1700's.  They also share their passion for archaeology and inspire the next generation by working with the kids who attend Fort Frederica's educational summer camps.

Riley Kruk

A high school student at Frederica Academy, has progressed from attending summer camp for two years to a junior intern. She loves helping with kids' camps and the thrill of discovery at the Sinclair site.

Anastasia Lamb

A senior at Georgia Southern is double majoring in History and Anthropology.  She is also a Sergeant in the Army Reserves.  Anastasia joined us to give back and teach aspiring young archaeologists—a unique opportunity to guide future explorers!

Cash Roberson

A second-year Engineering student at the University of Georgia, has been interning with us for an incredible five years.  Cash cherishes the unparalleled privilege of handling genuine artifacts and exploring historic sites up close. Cash served as the lead intern this year and provided great leadership.

Peyton Kruk

A high school student at Frederica Academy, attended our archaeology camps with her sister and is now a junior intern. Peyton finds immense joy in the detective work of uncovering history at the Sinclair site and helping kids learn crucial archaeology skills.

Sanders Barrett

Sanders will be attending Georgia Tech for Biomedical Engineering this fall, is working his first year as an archaeology intern. He's thrilled to be learning something entirely new, making connections, and working in St. Simons Island's beautiful outdoors!

Why This Program is Priceless

We are thankful for the generous donation to the archaeology intern program from the Elkin Alston family through the Goddard Foundation. Their donations, along with your donation as a Friends member, offers dynamic, hands-on experience unavailable in a classroom. It allows interns to connect directly with history, contribute to significant research, and, most importantly, ignite a love for the past in countless young learners.

These dedicated individuals aren't just shaping their own exciting futures; they're ensuring that Fort Frederica's rich history continues to be explored and shared for generations. The archaeology internship program is an essential investment in both our past and our future.

Your continued support as Friends of Fort Frederica makes these transformative experiences possible. Let's keep this incredible program thriving!
